24 Solar Terms – Spring Equinox (The 4th Solar Term of Spring)

Gregorian Calendar: March 20, 2025

Lunar Calendar: February 20th

Solar Longitude: 0°

During the Spring Equinox, the sun directly shines on the equator, resulting in equal day and night lengths across the globe. Temperatures are moderate, balancing between cold and warm.

Health and Well-being Tips

Diet:

Spring Equinox dietary focus is to avoid spicy, overly greasy, or excessively rich foods, such as ginger duck, herbal wine chicken, and deep-fried dishes. Overly sour foods should also be limited, as they hinder liver energy flow. Instead, opt for fresh, seasonal, dark green fruits and vegetables to nourish the liver, such as bamboo shoots, spinach, garlic, onions, and kiwi fruit.

Lifestyle and Habits:

Clothing: Wear loose and comfortable clothes. Hairstyles should be natural and not too tight. Bright-colored clothing and accessories can help uplift your mood.

Living Environment: Maintain a clean, bright home. Allow sunlight to enter, and when the air quality is good, open windows to let in fresh air.

Activities: Spring Equinox weather is moderate; avoid intense exercises as they may stress your cardiovascular system. Be cautious while driving, especially in heavy fog, to avoid accidents. Morning fog is denser, particularly in mountainous areas, leading to slippery roads and poor visibility. Slow down, balance your pace, and relax to soothe liver energy.

Aromatherapy for Health:

Spring Equinox's humidity can trigger three common health issues:

Allergic Diseases:

During the Spring Equinox, increased pollen may cause allergies such as rhinitis and atopic dermatitis. After outdoor activities, promptly change clothes and ensure proper indoor ventilation to reduce allergen exposure.

Spring Fatigue:

With significant temperature fluctuations, especially between day and night, fatigue and lethargy are common. Maintain a good sleep routine, avoid staying up late, and spend time outdoors in sunny areas. Deep breathing helps supply fresh oxygen to the brain, boosting energy and alleviating drowsiness.

Colds or Influenza:

Unstable temperatures can weaken immunity, making one prone to colds or flu. Strengthen your body through moderate exercise, stay warm, and avoid crowded places.

Acupressure with Essential Oils (March 20–April 3):

Massaging the following points with essential oils can revitalize the mind and eliminate dampness:

Temples (Taiyang): Relieves pain and refreshes the mind. Use your index and middle fingers to gently press on the temples, rotating 6 times clockwise, then 6 times counterclockwise.

Zusanli (ST36): Boosts digestion, energizes, improves circulation, and alleviates joint pain (5 minutes massage).

Yinlingquan (SP9): Treats water retention and reduces dampness (5 minutes massage).

Using essential oils for foot soaks while massaging these acupressure points can enhance circulation, detoxify lymphatic systems, and dispel dampness.

Sanyinjiao (SP6): Strengthens the spleen, replenishes energy, regulates menstruation, and dispels dampness (massage for 5 minutes).

Yongquan (KI1): Promotes blood and lymphatic circulation (5 minutes massage).

Essential Oil Usage Precautions:

1.     Do not ingest undiluted pure essential oils.

2.     Do not apply pure essential oils directly to the skin unless guided by a professional aromatherapist.

3.     Avoid getting essential oils in the eyes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with water.

4.     Do not use single essential oils for long periods or in excessive amounts.

5.     Pregnant women, infants, the injured or ill, and those with chronic conditions should consult a professional doctor or aromatherapist before using essential oils.

6.     Individuals with sensitive constitutions should conduct an essential oil sensitivity test before use.
