椰子樹原產於印度洋,在低緯度、炎熱及潮濕的沿海地區都一定有它的蹤跡。椰子樹身約有20~30公尺高,果實外殼堅硬且厚,果內白嫩色果肉十分鮮美,而乳白色的果液則是極可口的無菌飲料。
純正天然的椰子油穩定性非常好, 所以很容易保存,在攝氏25∘C以下油質呈固態狀,攝氏25∘C以上則呈液態狀。如果將椰子油再分餾萃取,便可得到清澈的液態油,但這卻不是完整的椰子油。因為缺乏了天然椰子油本質中的辛酸、葵酸及月桂酸。為了保留這些最珍貴的成分,又可符合香薰療法的用途,通常會做除去椰子氣味的處理。

使用方法
◇ 可以與任何植物油基底油混合使用,或100%直接作基礎油使用。
◇ 建議稀釋10%~50%與其他質地較輕的基礎油相互調和使用。
◇ 可以配製作各種的按摩油、軟膏、乳霜、潔膚液、沐浴油、洗髮液或護髮素等DIY護理用品。
安全事項
♦ 冷壓油液切勿高溫加熱,避免天然特性轉變。
♦ 開封後盡量置放於陰涼乾燥的地方儲存。
♦ 以溶劑提取的椰子油可能會引起某些人過敏反應。
♦ 在攝氏20ºC以下油液會呈固態,但不會影響其療效。
♦ 根據國際標準,適用於所有芳香療法的植物油均由低溫提取,並符合治療等應用。
♦ 如需內服油液,請先咨詢專業芳療師或醫生的意見。
